James Edwin Bennett, 83, died Monday, May 29, 2023, in Casper, Wyo.
Jim was born on November 30, 1939, in Douglas, Wyo., to Lillie (Ammons) Bennett, and Father, Demetrios Maras, also known as Charles (Jim) Bennett.
Jim married Delores Seegrist on September 10, 1958, in Scottsbluff, Neb.
As a young man, Jim worked the stockyards in Lusk and as a ranch hand for the local ranchers. Many of those ranchers provided mentoring to Jim, and he would tell stories his entire life about that time. He broke out in the oilfield in the late 1950's, for some little podunk company drilling shot holes. He worked his way up from worm's corner to the tool pusher for Barnhardt Drilling. He took great pride in his work, and passed on this work ethic to his children.
Jim moved his family from Lusk to Thermopolis in the fall of 1966, for work, he said. But we all know that it was for elk. Jim loved nothing more than hunting with his boys, which he continued to do right up until his passing.
Jim is survived by his sister, Kate; sons, David and wife Karen, Matthew and wife Ginger, and Daniel and wife Angela; grandchildren, Christopher, Jean, Desirae, Matthew, Delores, Preston, Melissa, Larry, Coy, Jerry, Danael, and Madelyn; and great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, David, Anna, Sebastian, Lukas, Bryce, Kinsley, Ruth, Jeremiah, Cooper, Jackson, Payton, Blevins, Brogan, and Chancy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; older brother, Ted; wife, Delores; infant daughter, Janet; and infant grandson, Michael.
Graveside services were held Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Riverside Cemetery in Thermopolis with Pastor Brian Johnson officiating. Mortimore Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Messages may be offered at ww.mortfh.com.
