The saloon will be open at the Hot Springs County Museum for three days only during the PRCA rodeo the last weekend in June. Drinks will be served at the Hole-in-the-Wall Bar.
“It seemed a shame to deny citizens and visitors the opportunity to stand at the bar with a drink in hand,” museum board member Mike Berry explained. “This is what brought this whole idea about in the first place.”
Guests will get a chance to buy beer, whiskey, wine or even Sarsaparilla in a unique event sponsored by the Hot Springs County Museum and VFW Post 2281 in Thermopolis.
This is the same bar that Butch Cassidy and his Hole-in-the-Wall gang enjoyed back in their Outlaw days when they were taking a break from robbing banks and trains.
“We are celebrating our Outlaw heritage,” museum chair Doris Ann Ready said, “It’s a chance for visitors to experience getting a drink slid to them across the same bar that Butch Cassidy often stood at.”
Admission to the museum will be free for everyone of all ages.
“We are waiving the entrance fee in lieu of donations,” Berry said. “We want folks to come in and enjoy the bar and museum in general.”
Berry is also the Quartermaster for the local VFW chapter and said that the event is also a great opportunity for people to support local history and their veterans.
“We want people of all ages to avail themselves of this unique chance to grab a drink at the bar, sit for a spell and reminisce about the Outlaw history of our town and county. Afterwards, they are free to stroll around the museum and check out the great exhibits on display.”
You can ‘wet your whistle’ on June 23-25 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free admission is being offered to the museum for all three days and Ken Ivie will be there Friday and Sunday with his food truck, We’ve Got Your Six Portions.
The museum is located at 700 Broadway Street. For more information, call 864-5183.
