Emily passed away surrounded by her family in the early hours of Sunday, May 21, 2023.
Known fondly by her loved ones simply as Em, she was born March 10, 1952, in
Powell, Wyo., to Larry and Verna Walker as the third of six children. Bouncing all over Wyoming and Montana in a station wagon, she lovingly picked Lovell to be her hometown, graduating from Byron High School in 1970.
Emily and Pat Schmidt were married in 1970, adding children Derek (Joe), Gretchen, and Jake to their doting home. Despite moving frequently, Emily never had trouble creating a community wherever she went. She distinguished herself with a quick wit and a remarkable ability to craft anything she dreamed of, often offering a pleasantly dry joke or suggesting a nifty creative idea to those who sought her expertise.
Her survivors are a testament to her deep familial compassion and ability to make the most humdrum days spellbinding. They include her siblings, Tom (LoisAnn), Anne (Rand), Sam (Teresa), and Paul (Brenda); son, Derek and daughter-in-law Korin and their sons Tyler and Camden; daughter, Gretchen Gamboa and son-in-law Miguel and their children Karson, Jackson, Aubrey and Jillian; son, Jake and daughter-in-law Kelly with their daughter Charlotte; and an abundance of nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Verna Walker; brother, Joseph Benson Walker; and grandson, Cody Dowler.
The moments spent with her, signaturely marked with kindness and surrounded by polka-dots and hollyhocks, will be forever cherished by those lucky enough to experience them.
Her service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lovell.
