Gary Lee Letchworth, 73, passed away March 24, 2023, at Hot Springs Health in Thermopolis, Wyo.
One of three children born to Warren and Juanette (Brown) Letchworth, Gary was born May 25, 1949, in Vernal, Utah. After attending Cow Creek Country School in Niobrara County, Wyo., he graduated in 1967 from Niobrara County High School in Lusk. Joining the Marines in 1968 he served three years. Following an honorable discharge he attended Casper College.
In all his years he was a rancher, teacher, counselor, master diesel mechanic, welder, carpenter and a good chef. He never ceased desiring more education.
Due to an industrial accident in 1981 Gary spent four years recovering during which time he acquired a Degree in Education from Chadron State Teachers College, then a degree in Psychiatric Treatment Counseling.
Gary married Rose Yakopatz on February 15, 2013, in Lander, Wyo. In Riverton, Wyo., he served as VFW Commander. In Thermopolis he was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rose; daughters, Cali Bahati, Kinsi Tracy, and Katie Knaub; sisters, Punk Letchworth and Juanda Gropp; half sisters, Meggan and Amelia Letchworth; half brother, Buddy Letchworth; stepchildren, John Sanders, Robert Nelson and Cress Whitman; thirteen grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 5 step-grandchildren.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held Friday, April 28, at 3 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Thermopolis with online services as well. A meal will follow the service including an open mic for sharing.
