Thermopolis First Baptist Church's Caleb Howe was ordained on Tuesday, March 14. Twenty-five other pastors and ministers from Wyoming, southern Montana, Idaho, northwest Colorado, and Utah all joined the meeting.
Howe described the ordination as "Where I make public God's call on my life, and our local church here, First Baptist Church, recognizes that calling. They organized this ordination meeting. The church wanted the ordination, and I wanted to seek that. And so these men came in and formed an ordination council to find out what I believed and where I stood on certain things and what I knew about the Bible and everything."
The various pastors interviewed Howe for about three hours. Howe added, "They interviewed me about my doctrinal positions, some practical ministry positions that I hold my beliefs on, different things, just to see where I was. And then that council makes a recommendation to the church to ordain me. And they did that night. And there's a process that we went through for the ordination service. They just call it the laying on of hands. And basically, it's just those men coming in, praying over me and about my ministry and everything. The best way to describe it is I had an inward calling, an inward decision to be a pastor, and that was the church publicly recognizing that decision I made."
Regarding Howe's origins of his faith and calling, he said, "When I was young, about age nine, I trusted Christ as my personal savior. And that was the moment I became a Christian and a believer. And I had placed my faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone. And then, through the course of time, I just gained a greater desire to preach and different things like that. It was just something I wanted to do. And the Bible tells us in First Timothy, 'If a man desires the office of a bishop, he desires the good things.' So I believe I have a set of gifts that God's given me... I just wanted to do this, and I had a desire. And God says that if you have a desire to do that, I mean, the Bible says that you can, you could do those things."
Howe serves as the assistant pastor at First Baptist Church and helps Pastor Tony Newhouse with the youth. Howe continues to serve his church as the community now as an ordained pastor.
