Eighth graders bring home second from conference

The Thermopolis eighth grade A boys basketball team came away with a second place after hosting Conference games Saturday.

Coach Ryan Shaffer said, "Overall we finished second in the conference, the same as the seed we were given for the tournament. We had some tough games throughout the day and as the day got longer you could see the fatigue setting in."

He added, "To say that I am proud of these boys would be an understatement. All of the boys grew so much, from Mack Buckner ruling the boards on both the offensive and defensive ends, having Brody Welch rise up to be a force on both the defensive and offensive side and watching Jordan Garrison grow in his leadership in games and practices. Ty Simeral grew into the 3 point shooter he is and learning the defensive beast he can be. Aiden Flores found his shot and contributed in ways that stats don't always show and Anthony Cheatham learning that he literally is the tallest and strongest man on the court."

"The success for the A team includes all of those boys that scrimmaged against them, that helped during timeouts, that cheered them on in each game, that continually made the team better by getting better themselves. We have high expectations for them in high school and I know they will not disappoint."

Scores:

Thermopolis 40, Powell 26

Thermopolis 37, Riverton 29

For the Championship: Thermopolis 39, Lovell 44.
