Farrell earns fourth regional championship
The Bobcat wrestlers finished strong at the 2A West Regional Tournament placing 3rd behind Kemmerer and Big Piney.
The cats qualified 12 of 14 wrestlers for the state tournament this week in Casper.
“We had seven wrestlers place in the top four and will be seeded at state. The team wrestled very well and pinned a lot of their opponents which is what was needed in order to place as a team,” said coach Travis McDermott.
At 120 lbs., Haeden Blair dropped down a weight and came out with a 3rd place finish winning his placing match over Big Piney’s Nate Brown.
Lance Axtell also qualified for state at 120 lbs.
At 126 lbs., Will Ward continued to wrestle well beating Ruby for the second time in the semi-finals. He lost to last year’s state champion Proffit of Kemmerer in the championship to bring home a 2nd place finish.
Daniel Blair, at 126 lbs., also qualified for state with a win over Farrington of Big Piney.
At 132 lbs., Ethan Crow wrestled some tough matches to take a 4th place finish and punch his ticket to state.
At 138 lbs., Colter Price had a great day battling back in several matches and beating Gleim of Dubois to take 3rd place.
Dalton Price, at 138 lbs., also made it to state in some very tough matches.
At 145 lbs. Seth Needham got a tough 1st round draw with Emery of Kemmerer then battled back in consolations to qualify for state.
At 152 lbs Brody Sorensen once again came up with a late pin over Hanusa of Rocky Mountain to make the championship. He lost to last years state champion Walker of Kemmerer in the championship to bring home 2nd.
Roedy Farrell capped off his last Regionals with his 4th championship in an eventfull match in which he eventually pinned Thompson of Cokeville at 160lbs.
Sam Skelton, at 170 lbs., battled all day and beat both Kemmerer wrestlers to get a 3rd place finish.
At 182lbs., Mason Reese qualified for state winning two matches and making it to the blood round where he lost to Cabello of Shoshoni.
The team heads to Casper this week for the Wyoming State Championships.
The Lady cats were on the road for their final regular season tournament in Lyman on Thursday. Alix Sorensen went 2-1 and got a 3rd place. Tera Kraushaar and Kaitlin Barral both came home with 4th place finishes.
They will be competing in the first ever Girls State Championship in Casper this Thursday and Friday.
