Thermopolis Middle School boys basketball teams have been busy.
The following is a recap of scores and coaches comments from their recent games.
Eighth A & B teams
Thermopolis A (48) v. Powell A (29)
Both 8th A and 8th Bteams traveled to Powell to take on the Panthers. Coach Ryan Shaffer said, “This was a good game for us as we started out with a big lead in the 1st quarter and never looked back. Brody Welch and Anthony Cheatham gave us some much needed post work as well Ty Simeral and Jordan Garrison working it in from the outside.”
The Bobcats had six of the nine players score, including three in double digits. Over-all we played well causing the Panthers to turn over the ball with the aggressive defense.
Scoring: Welch (16), Simeral (14), Garrison (10)
Thermopolis B (39) v Powell B (40)
This one came down to the last shot where unfortunately the Bobcats couldn’t execute the play as they had hoped.
Coach Shaffer said, “We played very well the first three quarters gaining a 9 point lead, but couldn’t find a way to hold on in the end. It was good to see Mann and M. Martinez play better offensively as they led the team in scoring. Mascorro played a great defensive game and has really started to figure out the offensive side.”
Although the team lost this one it was exciting to see the improvement with this team.
Scoring: Mann (13), M. Martinez (9)
Thermopolis A (36) vs Lovell A (39)
Both 8A and 8B traveled to Lovell for games. “This was a tough loss for us as we struggled scoring, missing over 16 shots within 6-8 feet. The second half was much better as we pushed them into OT, but in the end, we just couldn’t get the lead. Mack Buckner played big down low getting 6 offensive rebounds and 7 points, all in the second half. The team didn’t see a lot of success with shooting the ball, but the team had 6 players to score again showing that they aren’t just a one-man team,” said coach Shaffer
Scoring: Welch (10), Buckner (7)
Thermopolis B (22) vs Lovell B (20)
This was another exciting game! “Thankfully we got the W on this one. We had 7 different guys score, and more importantly we kept Lovell to only 20 points in the game.” The team had a good game all around and Coach Shaffer was glad they came away with a win!
Scoring: Johnson, M. Martinez, Mann, and Weyer (4)
Thermopolis A (43) vs Buffalo A (38)
The Bobcats traveled to Worland to take on Buffalo. “We started and led this game from the start to the end. The only real hiccup in this game was our fouls which led to a strong Buffalo 4th quarter to make it much closer than it should have been. Garrison played a huge role with 5 steals and what I see as the clinching And1 play in the fourth quarter.”
Buckner with some big rebounds and Cheatham playing some big minutes off the bench all contributed to the win.
Scoring: Welch (12), Garrison (13)
Thermopolis B (38) vs Buffalo B (35)
This was a close game throughout all four quarters. “We were able to win this one with D. Martinez’s scoring, Cheatham’s rebounding, and Mann’s speed. The team was able to adapt as we changed up offenses in the second half and ended with a layup by Deere to go up 3 with 15 seconds left.”
Scoring: D. Martinez (10), Mann (10)
