Kenneth W. Smith, 87, died Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the Hot Springs Health Hospital in Thermopolis.
He was born on March 29, 1935, in Crawford, Neb., to Anthony and Cora (Curtis) Smith. He attended schools in Worland, Wyo. At the age of 17, he joined the Air Force and was an MP stationed on the Azore Islands. He later joined the Army and was stationed in Murnau, Germany as an Army Engineer. After his military service, he moved to California where he worked in the oil industry.
He married Vita G. White on November 15, 1968, in Las Vegas, Nev. They moved to Thermopolis in 1971 where Kenneth worked for Fairdeal Funiture, Jadeco, and Reda Pump as an electrician. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He raised his granddaughter, Starla Luna, for 16 years.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Vita; sons, Rick (Ann) Miller of Beverly Hills, Fla., Kenneth B. (Christin) Smith & Frank R. Luna III, both of Thermopolis; daughters, Estella J. Smith (Gale) Hill of Cody, Wyo., Beverly A. Smith of Thermopolis, and Janice I. Luna of Jacksonville, N.C.; 27 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Louetta & Virginia; brother, Bill; step-daughters, Vicky Jo & April; grandsons, Michael & Randy; and granddaughters, Dovina & Elisha.
Cremation has taken place. Services will be held at a later date in the spring.
Mortimore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
