Backpack program fundraiser, Holiday Craft Show Saturday

The annual fundraiser for the Backpack Program, “Cheep Houses for Sale,” will be on Saturday, November 19 at the Thermopolis Middle School, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in conjunction with the Beta Sigma Phi Holiday Affair and Craft Show.

Backpack Program Coordinator Judy Carswell said, “This year is anything birdhouse… So be looking for anything bird house related. And of course, we will accept other items for our auction as well. Such as chairs, trees, etc. We are having a silent auction to help raise money for our local backpack program, which provides food to our kids on the weekends.” The program serves about 120 kids every month. “We have volunteers that pack the bags for us. They unload the truck and pack the bags.”

Carswell said why this program is so important to her, “Because we have kids in our school district that do not eat on the weekends. They can’t learn if they don’t have food. I can’t imagine a child not having food. I don’t know how they can go to school without eating. So, it’s my personal goal to make sure that every kid in our community is fed.”

Vendors will fill the TMS gym for the Holiday Affair and Craft show. They will be offering a variety of items that can be purchased as gifts or to treat yourself.
