Gaming commission gets go ahead for machines

At the October 18 Thermopolis Town Council, they held a brief meeting at the Town Hall.

FredCrosby, assistant to the mayor, communicated to the council on behalf of Jennifer Fisher that they are still moving forward with the gaming at the One Eyed Saloon. Crosby added that Fisher is in current conversations with both Wyoming Downs and 307 Horse Racing. Also, Crosby said, “Fisher believes the revenue for the county and the city should be pretty good with this once it gets up and going and she is pushing ahead on it, it just takes time.”

Chief Cornwell reported that he received a phone call from the Gaming Commission and asked for his blessing from the police department. Cornwell said they weren’t going to have any problems as the videos, the rules and the regulations should be taken care of.

Town engineer Anthony Barnett gave a report and said that this week will start the 41-day advertising period for the silo painting project. Barnett also mentioned the water project on Peppermint Street and upper Fremont street, the pavement should be completed by October 19. Barnett added they hope the warmer weather holds to complete the gravel and asphalt remaining work. 

In administration, Fred Crosby presented a map for a dual lot split requested by Karen Vallee. The property is located across the street from the old IGA building. Part of the proposed lot split would allow an easement for utility access and a right-a-way agreement. The council members and Mayor Mike Chimenti examined the map and the paperwork. After some discussion, the council voted and passed the approval of the lot split with the easement for utilities. They also voted and passed the approval of the right-of-way agreement. 

Chief of Police Pat Cornwell presented the council with two separate grants. One is for impaired driving for about $2,500 and the other is for seatbelts for $1,500. Cornwell also gave the council a heads-up on a coming request for dispatch to receive emergency medical dispatch training. Cornwell later will give the details in the request for a vote.

Mayor Chimenti said that he received a letter from WAM regarding their coming convention and asked for the region’s members to donate some funding to help pay for lunch and breakfast. The council voted and passed the approval to give $1,000 to help pay for the food.
