High school ACT scores high

In Hot Springs County we celebrate our students with fire trucks and show our Bobcat Pride when our students win big competitions like State Golf and Speech and Debate. As a community we all feel the excitement of the big win.

We should all feel extremely proud of the academic achievements as well.

At Hot Springs County High School (HSCHS )students shine with some of the best ACT scores in the State of Wyoming

According to a press release issued by Breez Daniels, “We know it represents ALL of our students working hard and learning at higher levels. Whether students are college, workforce or military bound we must guarantee they have a solid set of academic skills.”

The Class of 2023 state ACT assessment results provided by the Wyoming Department of Education (Sept. 2022) lists the scores of the 48 districts in Wyoming.

Out of the 48 districts across the state, HSCHS students have the #1 average score in English with a 20.4, the state average was 17.4. The students tied for #2 in the state in math with a 19.9, the state average was 18.4. Out of the 48 districts ,HSCHS had the #5 average ACT score in reading with a 21.1, the state average was 19.1. And in science the students were ranked #3 with a 21.1 average, while the state average was 19.1

“Across the board our students outperformed the majority of their peers around the state,” according to the press release.

The Class of 2023 overall composite average on the ACT was 20.8, tying them for 2nd in the state with Carbon #2 and only behind Lincoln #1 with a 20.9. The statewide average composite on the ACT was 19.

The students outperformed bigger 4A schools and small 1A schools alike in Wyoming on the spring 2022 ACT.

“It is important to recognize and celebrate the academic achievements in the same way we are proud of our State Championships in athletics and activities,” the school stated in the press release.

The press release stated in stark contrast to the high performance of students at HSCHS is the data released by the national news media - NPR and Wyoming Public Media reported, “ACT test scores drop to their lowest in 30 years in a pandemic slide (Press, Oct. 2022).”

The Bobcats at HSCHS should be considered Academic Champions with “Top 5” scores in all content areas!.
