John Daniel Dodge

John Daniel Dodge, 96, passed Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Hot Springs Health following a period of declining health.

Born September 9, 1926, in Casper, Wyo., he was one of eight children of Elijah C. and Rose (Borchers) Dodge. The family lived in Alcova during the time the dam was built. They moved to Thermopolis in 1938 where John graduated from High School.  From 1944-1948 he served in the Army Air Corps in Europe. Joining the local National Guard unit, he served in Korea from 1950-1952.

After returning from Korea John married Marles M. Hall, February, 1942, in Denver, Colo. For ten years he was associated in business, Wigwam Bakery, with his father and brother. He and Marles established/operated a TV and Radio Repair service for the next ten years. Following, John was employed by Wyoming Telecommunications Inc. as a Telecommunications Specialist  until retiring in 1990. Married 56 ½ years, Marles died in 2008.

A family man, John attended the sports activities of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed welding during his spare time and during retirement.

In May, 2010, John married Ellen Galyan blending his family with five stepchildren. 

Those cherishing John's memory are his children, J.D. (Lisa) Dodge Jr. of Thermopolis and Elaine (Steve) Novakovich of Cody; wife, Ellen, of Thermopolis; sister, Betty Jean Gwynn of Colorado; five grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; and four stepchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sonny and William; sisters, Carmelita Snyder, Yvonne Anderson, Patricia Spatz, Jeralyn Brown; half sister, June Clingman; and stepson, Victor Heinz.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 27, 10 a.m. at Community Federated Church with Pastor Chuck Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Monument Hill Cemetery.
