Helen M. Thamm, 73, was born in Chicago, Ill., June 16, 1949. On August 25, 2022, she went peacefully to be with her God. She was raised and educated in her hometown Chicago earning a Master's Degree in Psychiatric Nursing. But when she moved to Thermopolis in 2005 she referenced it as "her beautiful Thermopolis".
Helen had served in several nursing roles, including direct patient care in hospitals where she loved helping people grow through a variety of mental health challenges as well as in several nursing leadership roles. Upon moving to Thermopolis she worked as a therapist/nurse at the local mental health counseling center until briefly retiring in 2019 at age 71. Missing her clients, she returned to work part time until in November, 2020, was forced to retire due to a chronic lung problem.
She referred to her neighbor/friends as "angels", "saints" and "adopted neighborhood son". An active member of Hot Springs Christian Church, she served as the "cards and flower lady". She enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, playing board games with friends and loved playing with her two fur babies. Helen was grateful for the Senior Citizen Center who delivered nutritious meals and the volunteers who helped her deal with her long-term health challenges. Also, to the hospital, she expressed appreciation for the dedicated staff.
Those cherishing her memory include her brother, Bob Thamm of Illinois; foster brothers (3) and sisters (3); two "God sons"; church friends; and neighbors.
Memorial services will be Saturday, September 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Church in Thermopolis. Inurnment will follow at Monument Hill Cemetery with Pastor Allen Hamon officiating. Mortimore Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Helen suggested any donation be given to a charity of choice.
