On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Sheriff’s Office

Monday, Aug. 29

8:31 a.m. Report of a sex offender entering a school building. A 34 male was cited for prohibited access to school facilities by adult sex offenders.

8:35 a.m. A resident reported receiving online scam messages from another resident. It was determined the message sender’s account was compromised and they were advised to change their account password.

11:19 a.m. Brandon Haun, 20, was arrested on an alleged Washakie County probation revocation warrant.

2:02 p.m. Civil standby for multiple subjects moving out of a location.

Tuesday, Aug. 30

6:30 a.m. Agency assist for the Thermopolis Police Department.

6:39 a.m. An antelope was found on the side of the road with broken legs. The animal was dispatched by a deputy.

Wednesday, Aug. 31

2:55 p.m. Agency assist for the Thermopolis Police Department.

Thursday, Sept. 1

12:20 a.m. Agency assist for the Thermopolis Police Department.

Friday, Sept. 2

2:16 p.m. A traffic accident that caused damage to private property was reported.

2:50 p.m. Report of alleged intentional destruction of a commercial grade speed bump on private property. The matter was referred to the County Attorney for possible criminal charges.

5:01 p.m. Deputies responded to a report of drugs located inside a residence. Brandon Haun, 20, was arrested for alleged possession of a controlled substance.

Saturday, Sept. 3

6:07 p.m. Agency assist for the Thermopolis Police Department.

8:37 p.m. A deputy performed a traffic stop that resulted in a citation for driving under suspension.

Sunday, Sept. 4

9:11 a.m. Report of cows getting on private property. The reporting party was advised of Wyoming Fence Out Laws.

1:09 p.m. Report of a calf that may be in distress. The owner was notified.

4:26 p.m. Deputies responded to a one vehicle crash. Adam Almazan, 42, was arrested for alleged possession of a controlled substance and defrauding drug and alcohol screening test. Almazan was also cited for driving with a suspended/revoked license and lane use.

Police Department

Monday, Aug. 29

4:58 p.m. Following a family dispute, a juvenile left the home without permission. The juvenile was located.

7:11 p.m. A juvenile male was assisted with mental health issues.

Tuesday, Aug. 30

6:30 a.m. A suicidal subject was transported to the emergency room.

Wednesday, Aug. 31

1:54 p.m. A 19 year old female was cited for speeding. The 19 year old male passenger was cited for possession of marijuana.

2:46 p.m. An elderly male was reported missing from his residence. He was later located in a nearby house.

Thursday, Sept. 1

12:02 a.m. A traffic stop was conducted in the 300 block of South 6th. Kenneth Laabs, 52, was arrested for alleged felony driving under the influence of alcohol, felony theft, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and felon in possession of a firearm.

8:09 a.m. Nathan Thomas, 30, reported to the Law Enforcement Center to turn himself in on multiple warrants. Thomas was located in the circuit court lobby having a seizure and an ambulance responded. Thomas then became uncooperative and was taken into custody.

9:54 a.m. A ring was found in Hot Springs State Park and turned in.

2:35 p.m. Report of a suspicious vehicle. Officers determined the vehicle owner was working in the area.

3:05 p.m. Agency assist with Department of Family Services.

4:46 p.m. A REDDI report was called in. Officers determined the subject was not impaired but was given a verbal warning for seat belt and improper stopping.

Friday, Sept. 2

8:14 a.m. Request for security at a bank while funds were moved.

10:26 a.m. A female reported identity theft through electronic communication with an unknown person.

4:24 p.m. An abandoned vehicle in the 100 block of Meadowlark Lane was tagged.

Saturday, Sept. 3

11:54 a.m. An officer provided an VIN inspection.

5:02 p.m. A 74 year old male was cited for failure to yield to emergency vehicles, not wearing a seat belt and open container of alcohol.

6:04 p.m. A 33 year old male was cited for speed and warned for failure to yield to emergency vehicles.

Sunday, Sept. 4

9:27 a.m. A female reported her juvenile daughter changed login information on her phone account. The juvenile changed the information in order to turn the phone back on. The phone was returned to the reporting party.

Birth

Cody Cauffman was born Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at Powell Valley Healthcare to Katie and Jonathan Cauffman.

He weighed 8 pounds, 12, ounces and was 19 inches long.

Grandparents are Randall and Violet Olsen of Thermopolis and Doug and Lydia Cauffman of Basin.
