Alumni Association makes tough decision

The Thermopolis High School Alumni Association is making major changes for future reunion gatherings. There will no longer be an organized association that will plan events for the weekend of reunion. Reunion will still be held the third weekend of July but it will be up to each individual class to make their own plans. The live band and picnic hosted by the association will no longer be held.

Alumni Association director Kim Enis said, “I have talked to several past members of the Alumni, and we’ve decided on our best option. This has become a sad time for THS Alumni. Due to a lack of support for the association, it is not able to continue to support the band and picnic at the class reunions.”

On reunion weekend, the third weekend in July, the classes will be able to make their own plans for dinner, fun, gatherings, etc. The restaurants and bars around town are still happy to accommodate the many groups.

Enis added, “We are still encouraging you to go forward with making plans. The band attendance has been down for the last five years or so and the price of the bands is $1,200 to $1,500. We feel the price of registration would have to go way up to pay for that because not all the classes go through the association and still attend the band or go elsewhere.”

According to Enis, the leftover money from the Alumni Association will be put into the school endowment fund and used for a scholarship for a graduating senior.

Additionally, class reunion photographer Levi Shinkle still plans on photographing future gatherings. If you want to contact him to organize your specific class, his phone number is 921-9817 and his email is ljshinkle@gmail.com.
