This summer is packed with many activities here in Thermopolis and we should be thankful. With the post-pandemic COVID circumstance, we must never take our freedoms for granted. They can be lost if we are passive. President Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is a fragile thing, and it’s never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by way of inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people.”
Just last week Thermopolis enjoyed the PRCA Parade and Rodeo, which was well attended by locals, their families, and tourists. The freedom to get out, socialize, and share a meal with friends and families is something we all love. It’s a great time to celebrate and pass on our traditions.
And, coming soon to a big top near you, the Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus which hasn’t visited here for some time. This fun event will allow all of us to get away from the busy routines of life and enjoy wholesome entertainment. You can make memories for your children and grandchildren. Not only that, the Volunteer Fire Department will host its Independence Day fireworks show on Monday, July 4th. We have many things to be thankful for as we enter into July.
Take time to notice how precious this time is. Remind yourself that you are the hero in your own story and that freedom can be lost if we don’t take action to tell your story. You have in your hands the destiny of our community, our state and our nation. What will you do with it? Follow your heart and pursue your dreams and make them a reality.
The world longs for a fantastic story and will always root for the underdog. So, as we walk through this summertime of bliss and fun, remember who you are and what we are all about. This is your season, and this is your time.
