Woman charged with eight counts of animal cruelty

The Hot Springs County Sheriff’s Office has responded to a report of an animal abuse case on a property in Owl Creek. Following the investigation, three horses, one goat, two ducks, two pigeons, and one goose were seized. The Sheriff’s Office charged 79-year-old Carolyn Tribbett with eight counts of alleged cruelty to animals.

Upon arrival at the property, deputies met with Tribbett and presented a search warrant. Along with law enforcement, a veterinarian was present. The deputies advised Tribbett of her Miranda rights and she said she understood those rights.

The deputies investigated the barn and found it to be “extremely filthy and dust-filled” The report said the strong smell of ammonia burned the deputy’s eyes and he could taste it on his tongue. The deputies also investigated the house and found it to be filthy as well. 

In summary, the animals were found to be malnourished and in poor condition. The horses were seized and taken to Tahoe’s Rescue Ranch in Riverton with the hopes of recovering the animals’ health.
