HSC lodging tax revenue continues to see growth, set records

At the May 25 Hot Springs County Travel & Tourism public board meeting and yearly budget work session tourism director Jackie Dorothy reported that they continue to see growth in lodging with another record-breaking month from March revenues.

This lodging tax revenue is from hotels, R.V. parks, and vacation rentals and brought in over $15,000, the highest amount received in the past eleven years for the early spring.

Treasurer Audra Dominguez announced in her financial report, “We have surpassed our projected revenue for this fiscal year. We had estimated we would bring in $190,000 and we already brought in $191,000 with two months to go.”

Dorothy also reported that the Hot Springs County Travel & Tourism social media is seeing increased traffic. “We have 8,594 people following us on Facebook and this number continues to climb.”

There is continued interest in the videos that were produced by Schenck Photography. The videos are now being used as streaming television ads on paid sites such as Netflix and iHeart media.

Hot Springs Travel and Tourism recorded a podcast episode with the Office of Tourism to be released in spring 2023. The topic was the Wind River Canyon Scenic By-Way for their first series, which features Wyoming’s Scenic By-Ways.

A chance for Thermopolis’ tourism partners to learn more about international tourism was announced. In partnership with the Wyoming Office of Tourism and Rocky Mountain International, a half-day work session will be offered that will explain how to work with international tour operators. It will be free to the public on June 28 with more details following when a meeting place and times are scheduled.

After the public meeting, the board adjourned and went into their yearly Budget Work Session.
