Members of the Hot Springs County Sheriff’s Office will hold a memorial service to honor and pay tribute to those in law enforcement who have given their lives in the course of duty.
The ceremony will be Saturday, May 21 at 11 a.m. at the Law Enforcement Center at the flagpole. Following this, there will be a wreath-laying at the Riverside and Monument Cemeteries.
Sheriff Jerimie Kraushaar said, “It’s been a tradition here in Hot Springs County since Sheriff Lou Falgoust started the police officer memorial. It originated at the Monument Hill cemetery, which this year we are making a change by doing it here in front of the Law Enforcement Center and courthouse flagpole. It makes it a little easier for people of advanced age to be able to participate and not climb that big hill, fight the wind and everything. This year will have a Sheriff’s Office honor guard which consists of reserve and current employees for the Sheriff’s Office. We will be carrying the flag, raising and lowering the flag, playing the bugle, and doing a three gun salute.”
Kraushaar added that this memorial is to honor the three officers who have fallen while serving Hot Springs County. They are Deputy George E. “Ted” Price, July 24 1890 to August 31, 1927; Sheriff Frank B. McFarlane, December 6, 1875 to August 23, 1927 and Under Sheriff Edward Goodfellow, November 2, 1875 to August 14, 1927.
Kraushaar continued and said, “There have been a considerable number of fallen law enforcement officers this last year in the nation. I think it is important for us to remember them and to honor them and to honor the people in law enforcement who are currently serving, those who have been injured, and that hasn’t passed but are dealing with lifelong issues due to violence perpetrated against them. We put this memorial on every year to honor them and to bring awareness to the cause of violence against law enforcement.”
