Thermopolis Bobcat Track and Field team members hosted their home meet last Friday earning some PRs and pre qualifying for state in some events.
"I was really proud of how our team went out and competed at our home track meet. We saw a lot of great performances and PR's. I am proud of our athletes seeing their hard work at practice pay off," said coach Calder Forcella.
Hallie Martinez had a great senior day posting a PR in the Triple Jump and contributed to a pre qual time in the 4x8 relay.
Damiyan Gosnell capped his senior day off with consistent marks in the shot put and 800.
Mariah Brooks posted a PR in the 100, and was consistent with her performances in the high jump and shot put.
"I want to give Lexi Overfield a shout out for posting two big PRs in both throwing events, and placing in the discus at a competitive meet. For her first year ever throwing, Lexi has worked her tail off and been very coachable. I expect a big regional meet from her this week," said coach Forcella.
He added, "Jayci Basse is another athlete with the potential to qualify in multiple events at regionals after posting a pre qual time in the 200 this week. I am excited to watch her hard work this season pay out at regionals."
"Ina King has battled an injury the last few weeks and done a great job staying focused and ready to compete. She came back last week and posted a great triple jump winning the meet. Ina has the potential to come back a regional champ in that event and knocking on the door of a school record," said Forecella
Ruth Johnson and Hallie Martinez also posted their best jumps in the triple jump.
High Jumpers Aspen Brooks posted a huge PR this last weekend, and Joely Mounts have been consistent all season. Mariah Brooks has also been in the mix in that event as well according to Forcella.
The girls 4x8 also posted a pre qual time. "We have a lot of strong runners that can contribute on that relay team and I look forward to watching them compete at regionals," said coach Forcella.
Forcella gave a shout out to the entire coaching staff this season. "Our coaches have done a fantastic job getting athletes in events where they are going to be successful and contribute to the team. I believe that we have one of the best coaching staffs in the state when it comes to knowledge, experience, and building relationships with our kids. I couldn't be more grateful for their hard work. When people ask who the head coach is I usually say that we have five of them."
