High school FFA chapter holds banquet

The 2021-2022 Thermoplis High School 84th annual FFA Banquet opened with advisor Britton Van Heule introducing the officers who are reporter Tucker Lake, sentinel Hanna Hill, secretary Lexi Overfield, second vice president Morgan Slover, vice president Cadence Steadman and president Hallie Martinez.

Following dinner at the banquet, numerous awards were presented to FFA members and community members were honored for their support of the chapter.

A.M. Hartwig was the very first Ag teacher at Hot Springs County High School in 1938. In honor of his outstanding influence on the Hot Springs County High School Agriculture Education Program, chapter members recognize individuals who have gone above and beyond to support the Thermopolis FFA chapter. This year, Ryan Roybal, Ryan & Lacey Shaffer from P6 and Ryan Brothers Trucking were honored.

Members of each class were honored with leadership awards including freshman Maddi Andreen, sophomore Tucker Lake, junior Lexi Overfield and senior Cadence Steadman.

The FFA Alumni awarded scholarships to seniors Hallie Martinez and Eli McCumber.

This year's honorary members are Joe and Becky Martinez, Terry and Rochelle Steadman, Jason Bowman, Kiamichi Larson, Wyatt and Danae Christensen, Terry and Cathy Titmus, Cort and Kati McCumber, Jeff and Bobbie Clark, Tom and Jessie Ream, Dustin Taylor, Cheriee Wychgram, Joe Arnold and Jocelyn Hatch.

The Greenhand degree is the first degree one can earn in FFA. Rylee Agar, Taylor Agar, Maddi Andreen, Lance Axtell, Patrick Chapel, Jaye Christensen, Tymber Eckley, Maria Haight, Hanna Hill, Brooke Hueble, Tera Kraushaar, Hayden Overfield, Brody Potter, Ameilia Roberts and Teresa Steadman were presented with their degrees.

Tymber Eckley was named Star Greenhand, an award that honors one outstanding freshman each year.

Other star awards include Rising Star in Agribusiness Rylee Agar, Rising Star in Placement Hanna Hill and Rising Star in Agriscience Taylor Agar.

Chapter degrees were given to Kaitlin Barral, Kaia Galovich, Jayda Griffin, Chase Herring, Tucker Lake, Kale Odell and Simon Ream.

Star Sophomore is Kaia Galovich and Star Junior is Morgan Slover.

Star Chapter Farmer this year is Hallie Martinez, with Ally Taylor earning the Star Agribusiness award and Jason Bowman earning the Star Placement award.

New officers were announced and installed for 2022-2023 including Tucker Lake as sentinel, Kaitlin Barral as reporter, Teresa Steadman as treasurer, Tymber Eckley as secretary, Hayden Overfield as parliamentarian, Morgan Slover as vice president and Lexi Overfield as president.

During the banquet, members were also recognized for their achievements at the State Convention in April. A story on the front page of the April 14 edition of the IR includes a complete listing of those awards.
