Sharon Kay Burgess, 78, died Tuesday, April 12, at the Thermopolis Rehabilitation and Wellness in Thermopolis. She had previously resided at the Wyoming Pioneer Home for five years.
Born October 10, 1943, in Rawlins, Wyoming, she was one of four children of Edward and Pauline (Ehrich) Hilbird. She was raised and educated in Rock River, Wyo.
On August 1962 she married Larry Dwain Burgess in Rock River. They moved frequently as Larry was employed by Wyoming Game and Fish. In the mid '60's Sharon cooked and waited tables in Ten Sleep. The couple moved to Thermopolis in the mid 90's. Throughout her life Sharon had a seamstress business. She also was a cook at the H.S. Senior Center and the Wyoming Pioneer Home before becoming a resident.
Snowbirds, the couple enjoyed winters in Arizona. A thoughtful, caring woman, Sharon enjoyed playing with her grandkids, playing cards, knitting, traveling, quilting, Bingo, sewing and going to the casino.
Survivors include her siblings, Jim (Les) Hilbird of Douglas and Karen (Bill) Benson of Laramie; son, Lawrence Burgess of Thermopolis; grandchildren, Weston (Naomi) Burgess of Thermopolis, Jonathan (Monica) Burgess of Laramie and Michelle Burgess of Thermopolis; and great grandchildren, Dawn, Sharon, K.J., Kristy and Jonathan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry; and brother, Gerald "Jerry".
A Celebration of her Life will be held Friday, April 22, 2022, 2 p.m. at Mortimore Chapel in Thermopolis. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Laramie, Wyo.
