Mitchell Lynn "Mitch" Homi, 78, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.
Born September 15, 1943, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings, Mont., Mitch was one of three children of Toivo and Mildred (Sironen) Homi. Mitch graduated high school in Bozeman, Mont., where he starred as a football player. He would go on to get his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry at Montana State and soon after graduated Summa Cum Laude with his Pharmacy degree from the University of Montana in Missoula.
In 1969 he married Georganne Travis from Helena, Mont. After having three boys together in short succession as well as being transferred by Osco Drug to Billings, Mont., (where he would fill the first prescription in a brand-new location located directly across from RimRock Mall) Mitch bought his own drug store in Thermopolis in 1977. He would go on to own and operate his business for over 30 years. This became a true family affair where Georgia ran the party in the front while Mitch ran the business in the back. Throw in three boys who would literally grow up working alongside their parents in a drug store and you've got a true 'mom and pop' experience.
Mitch was passionate about his family. The Children's Center located in Thermopolis played a big part in his decision to move his family to Thermopolis so his youngest son, Tyler, could get the care, treatment and education that a child with cerebral palsy deserves. This was Mitch's passion, his family. He was a faithful and active Rotarian up until his death. He also served as an elder to his church, St. Paul's Lutheran, for many years. Mitch was a true pillar of the community and will be sorely missed. In his free time, you could find Mitch with his boys watching football, baseball, playing cards, and always barbequing when the weather permitted. He was a true Grill Master! He also loved to travel and was able to visit Alaska, Panama, Israel, Australia and New Zealand.
Family cherishing his memory include his sons, Travis (Liz) of Lander and Toby of Thermopolis; twin sister, Muriel Mikkelson of Bozeman, Mont .; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Tyler; and sister Laverne.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022, 10 a.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Sam Needham officiating.
Mortimore Funeral Home is assisting the family. Messages may be offered at http://www.mortfh.com.
