The Hot Springs County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting Saturday, April 9 at 2 p.m. at the Historical Museum. Barbara Tomes Viette will present a program called “Hot Springs County Cemeteries, Burials, and Graves.”
According to the Historical Society, “Cemeteries have a fascination for many of us. They can be historic, reverent, spooky, beautiful, or just plain interesting! They are found all over the world and each location reflects a slice of the culture of the area where they are located. Hot Springs County has several cemeteries and gravesites where most of the souls of our community are laid to rest. This program will highlight many of our local cemeteries (Smokey Row, Milek, Gebo, Crosby, and others) and even some interesting single burials in Hot Springs County.”
Barbara Tomes Viette, is a retired geologist, a graduate of the Hot Springs County High School and the University of Wyoming, and has chosen to retire in her hometown. She is passionate about local history and many of her ancestors are buried up on Monument Hill.
The meeting is free and open to everyone who is interested in the history of Thermopolis, Hot Springs County, and the State of Wyoming. If you have any questions or comments, please call 921-1551 and leave a message. Refreshments will be served.
