Speechters headed to state

The Worlando Beach Speech and Debate Tournament in Worland had over 360 entries and 17 schools compete.

“It was a good warm-up for the State Speech and Debate Tournament that will happen this week in Riverton,” said coach Wiley. The team finished 3rd in 1A/2A.

Individual finishes include:

Jean-Luc Willson took 1st in Extemporaneous Speaking.

Madeline Wagler broke into Super Congress and finished in the top ten.

Jarek Jeffs broke into semifinals in Humor and finished in the top ten.

Elizabeth Keller and Jean-Luc Willson both had a record of 3-1 in Lincoln-Douglas Debate and tied for 5th.

Julia Quintanilla finished 10th in Drama, and Bri Lackey finished 11th.

Josiah Butler tied for 15th in Extemporaneous Speaking.

Madeline Wagler tied for 13th in POI.

“Worland was a big tournament for us.  It closed out our regular season, and we are ready for the State and District Qualifying tournaments approaching in the next few weeks. The team had many near-breaks, and even though our end result wasn’t what we wanted as a team, we feel good about where we are in approaching our season goals.  Our seniors have been stepping up, and it will be good to be at full strength for the coming culminating events,” said coach Wiley

Jean-Luc Willson hit a huge milestone this weekend.  He is now all alone at the top of all-time National Speech and Debate Association merit points in Hot Springs County High School Speech and Debate history.

“It has been a special season for this team, and we hope to bring our best efforts of the year in the coming weeks,” said coach Wiley.
