The Bobcat wrestling team came home from the 2A Regional tournament winning second overall as a team, earning three championships, three top four placings and qualifying 14 wrestlers for state in Casper next weekend.
Will Ward, at 113 lbs., captured the championship and his first All-Conference award. Ward pinned his first two opponents then tech-falled for the win in his semi-final match.
Wyatt McDermott, at 138 lbs., won his second regional title and fourth All-Conference award. McDermott pinned all three of his opponents leading to the finals. McDermott had a tough match against Emery of Kemmerer where he was able to pull out an overtime victory 6-4.
Roedy Farrell won his third regional title and third All-Conference award. Farrell was able to get pins in all four of his matches after a shoulder injury that has kept him out for the past month.
Austin Barral earned his second All-Conference award by earning pins in his first two matches. He had a 4-1 victory over Cabello of Shoshoni to get into the championship where he lost to Walker in the finals to take second.
Brothers Brody and Jarek Sorensen brought home 3rd and 4th.
Other Bobcats qualifying for state include JoJo Crow at 106 lbs., Zane Stam at 126 lbs., Ethan Crow at 126 lbs., Jessen Basse at 132 lbs., Dalton Price at 132 lbs., Seth Needham at 145 lbs., Sam Skelton at 160 lbs., and Mason Reese at 170 lbs.
This week the cats will be in Casper at the Events Center Friday and Saturday for the State Championships. Wrestling starts at 9 a.m. on Friday with semi-final matches beginning at 7 p.m. Friday evening after the march of champions. Placing matches will be Saturday afternoon.
