The Cats came through with another fabulous finish at the one day Worland Speech and Debate Tournament by winning first place in the 1A/2A Team Sweepstakes.
There were some impressive individual performances at this competitive 13 team tournament.
“This was a very encouraging tournament. It was a true team effort to win the Sweepstakes, and the 1A/2A teams at the tournament represented a great sample size of teams we will be competing with for a state title. The level of competition was strong, and our results were definitely something to celebrate,” said coach Lyle Wylie.
Jean-Luc Willson and Elizabeth Keller closed out Lincoln-Douglas Debate (tied for 1st place - both 4-0). Josiah Butler ended up 5th in LD (2-2 record).
Jean-Luc also finished 3rd in Extemporaneous Speaking.
Chris Bapst took 2nd place in Impromptu Speaking, and River Quintanilla finished 5th.
Madeline Wagler placed 6th in Congressional Debate and finished in the top seven of Program Oral Interpretation.
Josiah Butler took 5th in Congressional Debate
River Quintanilla captured 3rd in Drama, and Bri Lackey finished 5th.
Jarek Jeffs and Brianna Lackey went 1-2 in Public Forum Debate, earning their first win in their first attempt at team debate.
Brendon Butler, Kalebh Nelson, and Kiesha Krausshar all finished in the top ten of Impromptu Speaking.
Chris Bapst and Kalebh Nelson finished in the top 8 in Extemporaneous Speaking.
Coach Wiley said, “Our seniors are taking a strong leadership role on this team and setting a tone of hard work and professionalism.”
“In both interpretative and debate, the team is improving every day, and it is exciting to see the confidence of our students build with their successes,” he added.
