Big Springs Accounting and Tax opens office

Jean Skelton, CPA of Big Springs Accounting and Tax, LLC, has opened her office in Thermopolis January 1 and welcomes potential clients. Skelton mostly does tax planning and business consulting. Prior to her office opening, she worked out of her home for the past three years.

For her service in tax preparation or tax planning, Skelton looks for ways to legally minimize the taxes people pay. Skelton added, “We want to minimize the taxes people pay and to do that throughout the year, not just come February 15 or April 15. Really, that’s a yearlong process of minimizing taxes.”

Another significant service Skelton does is business consulting. Skelton said, “It’s really my heart to help small businesses thrive. And they have to know their financial situation in order to do that. So with business consulting, I try to help small businesses become profitable. And that is really where my heart is. The taxes are almost secondary content compared to helping small businesses be profitable.”

Skelton highlighted some other services her office performs and said, “We also do monthly accounting services. If people are tired of doing their own bookkeeping, we can do that. That’s a service that I really like to kind of expand just because it is very needed in our community.”

Skelton added, “A lot of times people feel like they can’t afford to hire a bookkeeping service, but I want to challenge that and say, you can’t afford not to. Because sometimes it’s so important and you might be missing some things that can be deductible.”

“Bookkeeping is basically just keeping the checkbook, keeping the check register, but accounting is making sure it’s accounted for correctly. And there are so many other adjustments that go into accounting that you don’t pick up during bookkeeping, that a lot of people do their own bookkeeping, but they miss the accounting piece of it,” said Skelton
