Bobcat wrestlers start season strong at Powell

Thermopolis Bobcat Wrestlers  started their season strong on Friday and Saturday in Powell. The Bobcat Varsity Cats placed 4th out of 21 teams and JV placed 6th in the team standings. 

“We looked good for the start of the season, especially on our feet. We have some work to do on top and bottom. We have a lot of room for growth,” said coach Travis McDermott.  

Roedy Farrell at 160 lbs. won 1st  with pins in all five matches. Farrell dominated this past weekend and continues to show that he is a top wrestler in the state. 

Wyatt McDermott at 145 lbs. won 3rd place with 5-1 record showing dominance on his feet.

Jarek Sorenson at 220 lbs. won 3rd place a 5-2 record with quality wins and letting all know he will have something to say at state. 

Ethan Crow at 126 lbs. won 4th showing determination and athleticism on the mat. 

Will Ward at 113 lbs. stared his high school career placing 5th and was successful beating the #4 ranked 2A wrestler.

Dalton Price at 132 lbs started Friday tough but was able to make it to bracket on Saturday and placed 5th. 

Other varsity wrestlers include Lance Axtell 0-3, Daniel Blair 1-3, Seth Needham 1-2, Jessen Basse 0-3, Brody Sorensen 0-2 and Mason Reese 1-3.  

With the JV Bobcat wrestlers finishing 6th out of 21 teams Ethan Yarrington at 132 lbs. won 2nd and Samuel Skelton at 152 lbs. also won 2nd working hard for varsity spots. 

Colter Price at 126 lbs. placed 3rd, Logan Dafoe at 138 lbs. placed 4th, and Jordan Christian at 145 lbs. placed 4th. 

Other JV wrestlers include JoJo Crow 1-3, Zane Stam 2-2, and Luke Dickey 2-2.  

The Bobcat Wrestlers will travel to Worland this coming Friday for the Battle of the Big Horns Tournament.  The wrestlers will be facing Buffalo, Torrington, and Lander on Friday and have brackets on Saturday.
