Progress on work at water treatment plant

At the November 2 Thermopolis Town Council meeting, during citizen participation Chamber CEO Meri Ann Rush presented a street closure request for their Christmas Parade Saturday, December 11. Rush added that there will be no pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus at Santa’s request. The council voted and approved the street closure.

Rush reported that the Chamber’s Moonlight Madness event went well with more than 300 people present. They gave out 174 bags and held a costume contest in the middle of the street in front of the town hall. Rush added that some of the lights in the middle of the street were not working, but it was more light than in Bicentennial Park. The council said they would look into it.

Town engineer Anthony Barnett reported that the water treatment plant has two pumps back online. There were two filters replaced and the third one would be next. There was also some concern about a machine’s age because it required computer maintenance using Windows 98.

Interim Police Chief Pat Cornwell reported that the Hot Springs County Commissioners approved to accept the Homeland Security grant and contract for Eforce and that he need the town council to approve and accept it too in regard to the Thermopolis Police Department’s involvement and use. The council voted and approved to accept the grant and contract.

Under administration, Fred Crosby reported that the town’s health insurance showed no rate increase. Crosby said he was “pleased and surprised.”
