The Lady Cats hosted the 3A East Regional Tournament last Friday and Saturday. The girls played hard but came up short, losing to No. 1 seed Burns and Torrington, putting an end to their season.
On Friday afternoon, the Lady Cats lost in three to Burns, 15-25, 12-25 and 13-25.
"Burns played well and we just couldn't put a ball away. Our defense played pretty scrappy and kept the ball alive and our blockers did a great job at the net, we just couldn't get anything going on our side. Kamry Bowman and Julie Johnson played well, passing well during serve/receive and flying around on defense. Ina King stepped up and played well on the right side for us, putting up a big block," said coach Shannon Hill.
Stats from the Burns game include: Caydence Becher - 2 aces and Julie Johnson - 4 kills.
On Saturday, the Lady Cats took on Torrington, losing in three 22-25, 9-25 and 18-25.
Hill said, "Against Torrington I flipped my rotation around and had some new hitters in new positions based on stats and we came out ready to play in game one. We missed 5 serves, which did us no favors. Then in game 2 we checked out, unable to do anything at the net. In a last ditch effort I switched my hitters around one more time for game 3 and we dug ourselves a pretty significant hole that we made some gains on a little too late. I loved seeing the fight in the girls at the end of that set but it was just not enough."
Stats from the Torrington game include: Kamry Bowman - 6 kills and Ina King - 5 kills, 2 blocks.
Hill added, "I appreciate the dedication and commitment from each athlete this season. The girls showed up to practice and competed every day. I want to say a huge thank you to the seniors for their dedication the last 4 years. I am sorry the season didn't end the way we wanted but I appreciate your work ethic and love of the sport. I am looking forward to the potential in our underclassmen and already the drive of some of them to get going for next season."
