Moonlight Madness memories

As the crew of the Independent Record was looking through our old newspapers for this week’s Blast from the past, memory after memory from previous Moonlight Madness celebrations jumped off the pages.

Several of the little children dressed as princesses, pumpkins and ninjas that were in the photos over the years, have now graduated high school.

A big part of Moonlight Madness for many years was the Pinata Bash, hosted by Las Fuentes Restaurant.

Photos showed some of the first pinata bashes held at the restaurant that featured homemade paper mache pinatas, about ten of them.

Over the years, the event grew to over 30 store bought pinatas and several pounds of candy.

Each year, our photos show smiling faces busting open pinatas and excited children running in to gather up candy once it hit the ground.

We are happy to say, the Pinata Bash will still be featured this year during Moonlight Madness, despite the sad fact that the Las Fuentes Restaurant building burnt down and the business is no more.

The Independent Record staff is hosting a pinata bash in front of our office in the 400 block of Broadway.

The street will be blocked off to make room for costume contest participants, their parents and the judges.

As the costume contest is finishing up, we will start the pinata bash.

We have several pinatas filled with nearly 100 lbs. of candy, sticks to hit them with and blindfolds for the kiddos to wear.

All you need to bring are your princesses, pumpkins, ghosts, ninjas, etc. for a pinata bashing good time.
