TMS students score high on WyTopps

Thermopolis Middle School (TMS) Principal Steven Soderstrom reported the students did very well on the WyTopp state testing results in English and Language Arts, Math and Science in Wyoming.

TMS fifth graders ranked 9th in English and Language Arts and 4th in Math with 100% growth.

TMS sixth graders ranked 4th in English and Language Arts and first in math with 100% growth.

TMS seventh graders ranked 3rd in Math and 2nd in English and Language Arts.

TMS eighth graders ranked 4th in Math, 3rd in English and Language Arts and 3rd in Science.

Soderstrom said, “This is out of 48 districts and is the first time ever all cohorts in TMS have all been in the top 10 in Wyoming. Eight out of nine cohorts are all in the top 5.”

Soderstrom added, “The 4th grade team at Ralph Whitters Elementary (RWE) also was top 10 in the state in Math, Science, and English. We greatly appreciate RWE doing great work to build the foundation for our students - we are all part of a team and couldn’t do the work without them.

Soderstrom went on to say, “Our intention was to make the 2020-21 school year about learning and student growth, nothing else. I believe we were successful in that and will continue to get better for our students and community. Our hope is to set students up to be successful both in Hot Springs County High School and as adults after they graduate.”
