The varsity Lady Cat volleyball team went 7-1 in pool play and were seeded #1 in the Gold Bracket at their home tournament last weekend.
Scores from the tourney include (Lady Cats score is listed first): Shoshoni 21-17, 21-18; Saratoga 21-15, 20-21; Greybull 21-18, 21-18; St. Stephens 21-5, 21-8.
“I was very proud of my girls for their consistency and ability to pull themselves out of deficits when they needed it and stay focused. We really focused on increasing the difficulty of our serves this weekend and I definitely saw that increase and the girls really stepped up. We lost out in bracket play to Little Snake River (25-21; 19-25; 10-15), but it was a good learning experience for our team. We realized we can’t win matches playing tentatively,” said coach Shannon Hill.
She added, “Our focus this week is to be more aggressive at the net and on defense. We have Burns on Saturday (in Douglas) and we are looking for our upward slope of winning to begin this weekend.”
The Lady Cat JV team went 7-1 in their pool play matches as well, only narrowly losing one game, 20-21.
“The JV team played well as a team this weekend and stayed very consistent. It is really fun to watch the girls grow as athletes and as a team,” said Hill.
The Freshman Lady Cats played a match Thursday vs Ft. Washakie’s JV team and beat them in two games.
Hill said, “Our freshman passed really well off some great serves and played consistently as a team. They are fun to watch.”
