The Risen Son Christian School closed this year and school board member Bradyn Harvey said it is a staffing issue, not a financial issue.
“Last year they had four teachers that taught from preschool up to third grade. They planned to move up to fourth grade this year as, of course, the students became older. Harvey said, “We tried to keep growing, so we hired a fourth-grade teacher for the fall of this year,” said Harevy.
The school held a Spaghetti Auction and it was a record fundraiser, achieving over $25,000.
Harvey said, “Right before the school year started, we had a meeting and we couldn’t make the teachers work out. We had some staffing problems that we had too short of a notice to get worked out in time. So, instead of rushing and having some part of a year, we decided to take a year off and come back stronger next year. There were some family issues and some health issues.”
The children that were enrolled at Risen Son Christian School are now going to either Ralph Witters Elementary or be homeschooled. There were about 30 students enrolled and at times they had up to 75 students. Tuition would have been $250 per month without a scholarship, but Harvey said that some of the funds raised would go to aid students.
Harvey added, “We are looking for an administrative person and some teachers.” Those who want to apply can contact Bradyn Harvey to set up an interview.
Harvey said one of the rumors they wanted to quash was that the school was in financial troubles.
