Thermopolis Chief of Police, Julie Mathews has announces she plans to retire September 15. Chief Mathews has served the Thermopolis community since 2013. She has worked as a patrol officer, animal control officer, communications and lastly as Chief of Police. Her prior history was with the Riverton Police Department.
Chief Mathews is grateful for the opportunity to service this fine community and gives special thanks for Mayor Mike Chimenti and the Town Council for supporting her in much needed upgrades to the police department. The upgrades include the newly remodeled 911 Center, upgraded patrol vehicles, ballistic vests, training and other numerous items.
Chief Mathews stated that her decision to retire was much like a train that got derailed. “Sometimes you want to stay on the track but when you least expect it, you get bumped off.” It was not in the plans to retire before this term was over, but due to some underlying health concerns, it has forced the decision to come sooner rather than later.
At this time, there is no official announcement regarding her replacement.
