The Hot Springs County Pioneer Association and Hot Springs County Historical Society will be hosting a historical trek and picnic through Wind River Canyon on Saturday, August 21.
The trek will feature geologic highlights and reference, historic points of interest through the canyon, historic accounts of the construction of the Yellowstone Highway through Hot Springs County, overview of the original Boysen Dam, mining district, Barney Smith’s “Best Dam Bar and Café By A Dam Site”, and Asmus Boysen’s Dam Problem.
A picnic will be enjoyed at the Lower Campground Shelter at the head of Wind River Canyon. Meat, drinks, and table service will be furnished. Trekkers are asked to bring a side dish.
The trek will leave the HSC Museum at 10 a.m. and be back to the Museum by 3 p.m. This event is for members of the Historical Society or Pioneer Association. Membership information is available at the Museum as well as the sign-up roster. Please sign up by Thursday, August 19 so plans for food can be made. If there is enough response to warrant, a bus may be provided for transportation, at a nominal fee.
