Mark Weldon Phipps, 69, passed away suddenly Friday, June 18, 2021, at Hot Springs Health in Thermopolis, Wyo.
One of three children of Weldon and Janice (Moredick) Phipps, Mark was born January 15, 1952, in Fort Collins, Colo. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the US Army in 1970, served in Korea, and was honorably discharged in 1973.
On March 7, 1974, he married Kathy Jean Hofecker in Johnstown, Pa. An entrepreneur, Mark was employed by Kodak as an engineer, worked in logging, was a professional hunting guide and a custom firearms manufacturer in the early 1980’s. Moving to Thermopolis in 2003, the couple purchased land in Hot Springs County naming it the Didit Ranch.
An all-around outdoorsman, Mark enjoyed mules, motorcycles, obstacle course racing, mountain trail running, hunting, fishing, backpacking and the love of his family. He was a member of the Wyoming Outfitters and Guides Association.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy, of 47 years; children, Michele (Joshua) Miller of Pflugerville, Texas, and Mark (Babbett) Phipps of Wellington, Colo .; brother, Mace Phipps of Arizona; and grandchildren, Madison Scarlotti, William, Jason and Marisa Miller and Morgan and Hunter Phipps.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Myrleen Phipps.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 25, at 2 p.m. at the local VFW. Memorials may be made in Mark’s name to a charity of choice.
