District music festival results

The North Big Horn Basin held its annual District Music Festival virtually this year.

Large Ensembles (Concert Bands and Choirs) were required to submit video recordings of their performance for adjudication from three judges.

Small Ensembles and Solos were also required to submit video submissions for adjudication from one judge. Due to the virtual nature of this year’s festival they were able to submit Middle School Large Ensembles for adjudication using the same rubric as the high school.

“As Director of Bands and Choirs at Hot Springs County High School and Thermopolis Middle School, I am incredibly proud of the work and dedication our young musicians put into this endeavor. A huge thank you to our community for the support you have shown the Music Department over the years,” said band director Drew Brown.

The ratings are broken down into the following categories: I - Superior, II - Excellent, III - Good, IV - Fair, V - Needs Improvement. Results include:

HSCHS Bobcat Concert Band: Overall Rating - I - Superior

HSCHS Bobcat Concert Choir: Overall Rating - II - Excellent

HSCHS Jazz Cat Combo: Overall Rating - II - Excellent

TMS 7th/8th Concert Band: Overall Rating - II Excellent

Aidan Freeman (Freshman) - Alto Saxophone Solo - I - Superior

Jean-Luc Willson (Junior) - Trumpet Solo - II - Excellent
