Girls face Douglas first at regionals

The Lady Cat basketball team lost a hard fought contest with Buffalo last Friday night.

The girls rallied in the third quarter to overcome a double digit deficit, but in the fourth quarter, turnovers plagued them, and they fell to Buffalo by a final score of 70-52.

The girls trailed by a score of 29-20 at the half, but in the third quarter, great defense and offense led to a nice run by the Lady Cats taking the lead late in the third quarter.  A buzzer beating 3 pointer by Buffalo gave the Lady Bison a 1 point advantage heading to the fourth quarter as Buffalo led at that point 43-42.

“Unfortunately, ball handling and shooting woes hamstrung the team, as they failed to match Buffalo on both ends of the court during the fourth quarter,” said head coach Matt McPhie.

Buffalo erupted and out scored the Cats 27-10 in the final quarter.

“There were many positives to take away from the game however.” said coach McPhie.

Sadie Burr had a career high night in scoring.  Burr had 22 points including 6 made 3 pointers.  Sadie added 4 rebounds and 3 assists to her totals.

Kamry Bowman had 10 points, and Layne Myers chipped in 5 for the Lady Cats.

Julie Johnson had a big evening bringing down the rebounds. Johnson collected 8 on the night. Ruthanne Johnson and Layne Myers each collected 3.

Kamry Bowman dished out 5 assists to lead the way in the giving category.

“We were proud of the team for the way they fought,” said coach McPhie.

The Lady Cats will begin 3A regional play Thursday, March 4 in Buffalo. They take on #1 ranked Douglas in their first game.
