Ten Bobcats qualify for state wrestling

Cole, Farrell, Ferree and McDermott earn regional championships

Bobcat wrestlers completed at the 2A Regional Wrestling Tournament in Thermopolis last Saturday. The team qualified 10 of the 13 wrestlers entered.

"We had some outstanding performances by both our veterans and our freshman to get to state," said head coach Travis McDermott.

Four Bobacts earned regional championships - Wyatt McDermott (138), Roedy Farrell (152), Logan Cole (195) and Remington Ferree (Hwt).

"All four pinned in every match and are looking good to make runs for state titles this week in Casper," said coach McDermott.

Dalton Price was the Bobcat's lone runner-up at 120.

Jessen Basse was third at 126. Also making it to state in fourth place are Seth Needham(120), Daniel Blair(126), Lee Grimm(170) and Jarek Sorensen (220).

"We had some tough matches in the consolation-semis to qualify for state and our wrestlers persevered to get that nod," said coach McDermott

Needham had a great comeback down 10-4 in the second. "Seth just kept wrestling and eventually tied the score and held on to send the match into overtime where he got the sudden victory takedown to move himself on to the state tournament," said coach McDermott.

Blair and Sorensen got wins in the consolation semis to extend their season.

This Thursday will be the 2A State Wrestling Championships in Casper.

"For the first time, that I know of, we will be doing a one day tournament. Our four regional champions are in good position to make runs for state championships," said coach McDermott.

Two time returning state champion Cole looks to dominate at 195 this year.

"McDermott, Farrell and Ferree all have been in state championship matches and are poised to get another shot at the title," said coach McDermott.

The other six Bobcat wrestlers will have some work to get to medal rounds. "They all have the ability to get to a placing match and with the right mental state can place high," said coach McDermott.

While the state tournament is scheduled for championship rounds at 4:30 p.m., those times could change depending on how the tourney runs.
