Ila June Delap, 82, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 11, 2021, at Community Healthcare of Texas in Ft. Worth, Texas.
June was born April 29, 1938, in Riverside, Calif., where she grew up and later attended Riverside Polytechnic High School, graduating in 1956.
On September 6, 1956 she married Dale Giles McDonald of Heber, Utah, and they lived in several states before settling in Thermopolis, Wyo., in 1967. They later divorced 1971. June then married Gene Delap on August 10, 1977, in Thermopolis where they both lived until retiring to Hemet, Calif., in 1991 for 25 years before moving to Weatherford, Texas in 2016.
She had several passions throughout her life and none were more prevalent than being her children's biggest cheerleader as she attended all of their sporting and band events at home and then following the buses across the state. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, scrapbooking and Bible study with her favorite verse being Proverbs 3:5-6. As a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Hemet, Calif., she taught Sunday School for 25 years.
June is survived by her son, Jon McDonald of Plano, Texas; daughter, Kelly (Chad) Woods of Weatherford, Texas; stepsons, Jim (Sandra) Delap of Greeley, Colo., Tim (Lori Hickman) Delap of Hemet, Calif., Tony (Sandi) Delap of San Diego, Calif., and Daniel (Ronda) Delap of North Plains, Ore.; stepdaughters, Rita McLaughlin of Grovetown, Ga., and Barb Welch of Thermopolis; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; father John; mother, Edith; and brother Bennett.
A Memorial service will be held in the spring once arrangements are finalized for interment at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
