Wrestlers get some solid wins

The Bobcat Wrestling Team traveled to Buffalo on Friday to wrestle Buffalo and Tongue River.

“We did not perform very well against either team. We didn’t seem to have much of a spark Friday night. It is also difficult for our freshman to get experienced varsity opponents. Most of our matches were with freshman against Buffalo varsity wrestlers. I think that put us in a poor mental mode against Tongue River,” said coach Travis McDermott

He did note there were a couple of bright spots. Against Tongue River, Dalton Price and Wyatt McDermott both got pins in there matches. The match of the night was Kailey Allen that was a hard fought battle for the entire match. Allen got a late reversal to tie up the match and send it to overtime. She then defended a shot and got behind for the sudden victory win. It was a great effort by Allen and had the Thermopolis fans pumped up.

Saturday the team traveled to Wright for three more duals with Niobrara County, Wright and Tongue River again.

“The team looked much better and went out and performed well,” said coach McDermott.

Wyatt McDermott and Logan Cole solidified there #1 rankings with wins over other ranked wrestlers. McDermott beat the #4 ranked wrestler at 138 with one of his best matches of the season. McDermott controlled the match the entire time and showed why he is the top wrestler at his weight. Cole took care of the #2 wrestler at 220 with minimal effort. Cole is making his senior season a great one to end his career. Remington Ferree also beat the #7 ranked wrestler at heavyweight to maintain his #2 ranking.

“Saturday we did avenge some of the losses from Friday night with Austin Barral and Lee Grimm turning the tables on the Tongue River wrestlers and getting good wins on Saturday,” said coach McDermott.

This week the boys travel to Powell on Thursday to take on Powell and Cody. Saturday they will be in Lyman for the Bridgerland Duals starting off with Lyman.
