On the record

On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Sheriff’s Office

Monday, January 25

4:36 p.m. Report of a hit and run at the intersection of Highway 120 and Missouri Flat Rd., where the deputy noticed a missing stop sign. The deputy took a look and the sign’s wooden post had been broken from the ground. The delineators were also damaged. There was no vehicle identified or skid marks. No one reported the damage.

However, there were parts found on the scene. The parts were picked up and the type of vehicle was identified. The deputy did a search in the county’s registered vehicle to match the make and year. They found a match of the vehicle located in the area and it was owned by a man.

A 37-year-old male was cited for duty for an unattended vehicle. 

Tuesday, January 26

7:26 p.m. Report of an accident involving a vehicle versus deer at the Gebo Area on Sand Draw.

Wednesday, January 27

8:26 a.m. Report of a citizen dispute between property owner and a business. They trespassed each other.

3:41 p.m. Report of a request for a civil standby.

Friday, January 29

10:07 a.m. Report of an agency assist where a deputy and the Department of Family Services performed a home visit. Everything was fine. 

4:03 p.m. Report from an alarm company where an alarm was going on off at a business out of town. They contacted the key holder and they met the deputy. The building was cleared and everything was fine.

Saturday, January 30

12:39 p.m. Report of an agency assist where the deputy worked with the Highway Patrol involving a gas drive off.

4 p.m. Report of an alarm going off. The deputy was advised everything was OK before responding. The call was canceled prior to his arrival.

5:04 p.m. Report of a noise complaint where loud music was being played. The deputy arrived and did not hear the music. He spoke to the party involved with this complaint and they admitted to playing loud music but had already turned it down.

6:09 p.m. A deputy assisted emergency medical services with the transport of a patient to the hospital. 

Sunday, January 31

5:18 p.m. Report of a vehicle that was being driven across the center lines and erratically in the area of mile marker 8 on Highway 120. The vehicle was headed toward Thermopolis, and the deputy located the vehicle. Jerad Reese Coggins, 31, of Meeteetse, was cited and arrested for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol and also was cited for possession of marijuana, driving with an open container and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Monday, January 25

8:25 a.m. Report of an agency assist where an officer helped the town water crew access a water meter.

11:37 a.m. Report of a theft where a subject had some money missing. The officer advised them on how to prevent it in the future. The suspect was contacted, but no one could prove they took the money.

1:55 p.m. A subject was assisted with a motel for the evening.

5:14 p.m. Report of a 911 hang up where a subject was having issues with their child and managed to get things taken care of prior to officer arrival.

5:32 p.m. Report of a citizen dispute involving a verbal argument between two subjects. They were separated for the day and will see if they can get along.

Tuesday, January 26

10:22 a.m. Report of harassment involving a female subject who felt she was being harassed by a male subject who didn’t agree. They were advised of their options. 

9:38 p.m. A 17-year-old male subject was cited for minor in possession of tobacco.

Wednesday, January 27

3:00 p.m. Report of a citizen assist involving a man with a broken down vehicle. The officer made arrangements for him to receive help.

7:32 p.m. Report of an agency assist where an officer helped the Department of Family Services in an urinalysis of a 14-year-old juvenile male.

Thursday, January 28

10:04 a.m. Report of a possible drunk driver. The driver was contacted and found not to be intoxicated.

1:35 p.m. Report of a business who kicked out a couple of intoxicated subjects. The officer did not make contact with the subjects because they were already gone at the time of arrival.

4:18 p.m. Report of an agency assist where an officer helped the Department of Family Services in an urinalysis of a 32-year-old male.

Friday, January 29

1:05 p.m. Report of an accident where two subjects were backing out of parking spots at the same time. There was minor damage to the vehicles and no citations.

4:13 p.m. Report of an emergency where one of the off duty patrol cars sent a distress sign to the dispatch, but no one was in the car and the officer was not present. They have no idea what set it off. 

11:46 p.m. Report of disorderly behavior where a patron refused to leave a bar. They left once officers were contacted.

11:47 p.m. Report of a bar check where an officer made sure peace was kept. All was well. 

Saturday, January 30

10:49 a.m. Report of a deceased 74-year-old male. There was no evidence of foul play.

8:24 p.m. Marion J Brown, 42, of Ethete, was arrested for alleged public intoxication. 

Sunday, January 31

2:31 p.m. An officer provided a civil stand by for the termination of an employee at a local business.
