Lady Cats struggle on the road

The Lady Cats basketball team took a pair of losses over the weekend as they hit the road in Newcastle on Friday and Douglas on Saturday.

Friday night the girls had a tough first half, struggling to take care of the basketball as Newcastle forced 22 turnovers on the night.

"The girls had a tough time getting quality shots and we had two really bad quarters right out of the gate," coach Matt McPhie said.

They went to the locker room trailing 27-10.

Sadie Burr led the way scoring with 14 points while Julie Johnson pitched in eight for the Lady Cats.

Ruthanne Johnson was on top on the boards, pulling down five rebounds on the night. Kamry Bowman dished out four assists and had two blocks.

Final score against the Lady Dogies was 55-35.

On Saturday the Lady Cats met the top rated team in the state, the Lady Bearcats from Douglas.

"Douglas is a big, talented team who is giving everyone fits this year," McPhie said.

Burr was top scorer in this game, too, dropping in seven points with Mariah Brooks on her heels with six points.

Julie Johnson grabbed six rebounds, including five offensive boards. Brooks also grabbed five rebounds.

Final score against Douglas was 81-26.

The Lady Cats will be home this weekend taking on the Lady Buffs at 5:30 Friday night and the Lady Huskies on Saturday at 3:30.
