Monday, February 1 marks the 80th birthday of Harvey Seidel and a chance to give him your best wishes at a party in his honor at the First Baptist Church.
Seidel was born a farm boy in Iowa who originally wanted to be a veterinarian before changing his mind and attending Bible College. There, he met his wife of 59 years, Lois.
When asked what his secret is to making it to 80-years young, Seidel said, “I come from good genes. My grandmother lived to 97 and my great grandmother to 99.
“Always be busy, that’s the key. I see so many who get sedentary when they retire and then they die.”
Raising Morgan horses since 1976, Seidel says that is something that keeps him busy, even now.
“I have some of the oldest bloodlines for Morgans in the U.S.,” he said. “What I learn from them I apply to life and people. There’s something therapeutic about the horses just being around you.”
He will be even busier soon as he’s taken on a breeding pair of manx cats with kittens on the way. Nothing like tiny balls of fluff to keep you young.
