Lady Cats show excellent defense

The Lady Bobcats split a pair of games this past week, beating the Greybull Lady Buffs 55-35 on Tuesday evening, then falling 75-29 to the Lady Tigers in Lander. The girls are placed fourth in conference play in 3A Northeast.

Coach Matt McPhie said the team started off slow against Greybull and then exploded for 35 points in the second and third quarters.

“This was in large part to some excellent defense,” he said.

The team forced 37 turnovers while committing only 17 of their own.

Layne Myers had an excellent game, scoring 16 points, which included knocking down four three-pointers. Myers also did well on the defensive side of the ball, collecting four steals and five deflections.

Kamry Bowman had a big game, dishing the ball out. She dropped off seven assists against the Lady Buffs and managed three steals as well as 12 big points for the team.

Julie Johnson had 11 points on the evening and led the team in rebounds with seven.

Sadie Burr added another four steals for the Lady Cats.

Friday’s contest against Lander was not as smooth.

The Lady Cats were on the opposite end of the turnover spectrum and McPhie said the team struggled to take care of the ball and fell to a very talented Lander team.

Bowman led the team in scoring, putting six up on the board while Myers added another five.

Johnson led the way with five rebounds against the Lady Tigers while Johnson added four deflections. Burr led the defensive charge with three steals.

The girls travel to Newcastle to take on the Lady Dogies in conference play on Friday, followed by another conference match on Saturday against the Douglas Lady Bearcats.
