Eager to learn about Hot Springs State Park

Recently at Hot Springs State Park's Big Spring, Darrell Montz, a resident of Powell, took the time to explain all he knows about the various hot springs throughout the nation to some visiting tourists.

Yulia Bistrevsky, with Russian heritage, and Matt Brosvik from Spokane, Washington were on a road trip exploring the USA. Montz spent considerable time sharing with them his knowledge as they were eager to learn.

Bistrevsky and Brosivk said are escaping Washington because of COVID and the government and they said, "We are hot spring fanatics. We want to explore."

Hot Spring State Park was recently included as one of the nation's top hot springs locations to visit.

There is no entrance fee for Hot Springs State Park.

The park has 6.2 miles of universally accessible trails and hiking trails.

The free State Bath House and the two privately owned swimming pools brings thousands to Thermopolis every year.

The Hot Springs State Park bison herd is the central herd for the Wyoming State Parks. During the late fall and winter months, the park bison are fed a daily supplement to insure good health. This feeding usually occurs at 8:30 a.m., giving the off-season visitor the unique opportunity to view the "Monarch of the Plains," up close. Please remember that bison should be viewed only while you remain in your vehicle.

The ever popular "Swinging Bridge" offers a unique vantage point from which to view the Bighorn River and Rainbow Terrace.

Approximately 8,000 gallons of water from the mineral hot springs flow over the terrace every 24 hours at a temperature of around 128 degrees Fahrenheit.
