Wrestlers show growth

The Bobcats wrestled a home dual last Thursday against Wind River.

Although they lost the dual, it was exciting as it came down to the heavyweight match.

With injuries at 182 lbs., the Bobcats had to give up too many weights.

"We lost some close matches in this dual that came down to conditioning. We still did not look as sharp as I would like and our third periods did not go our way," said coach Travis McDermott

Then on Friday the wrestlers had three duals in Worland.

"We progressed very well through the day and started to wrestle with heart and the team came together and created a great atmosphere," said McDermott.

The Bobcats started against Powell JV team. "That was good for our freshman to get some competition," said McDermott.

The Cats then moved on to Lovell, a top ranked team in 2A.

"The only difference was the weights we didn't fill. We had some great matches and came out on top of the close ones," said McDermott

Both Dalton Price and Wyatt McDermott knocked off #1 ranked wrestlers from Lovell. Price got a pin over Michelson with his own brand of scrambling. McDermott knocked off Nicholson and controlled the entire match against last years runner-up at 138. Seth Needham also got a win in overtime after getting a takedown with 5 seconds to go in the match to tie it up.

"That was early in the dual and set the stage for the team to win most of the matches," said McDermott.

The last dual of the day was against Newcastle who has quality wrestlers in there lower weights.

"The match of the dual would be Roedy Farrell vs. Cale Corley who is the returning 3A 138 lb. state champion and ranked #1 at 145 in 3A. Roedy showed that he is a top notch wrestler in the state as he controlled the entire match and ended up pinning Corley early in the second period," said McDermott.

He added, "While our dual record isn't great, we definitely are showing growth and the Lovell dual showed our potential with both our young guys and our veterans. Over the break we will be pushing to improve both technically and conditioning wise."

The Bobcats are looking forward to having their dual tournament right off the bat on Jan 8-9 when we get back from Christmas break.

"We will be hosting some of the best teams in the state with Cokeville and Moorcroft attending," said McDermott.
